Creating Rules

  1. Open the Auto-Tagger app from your Shopify admin.
  2. Click New rule.
  3. Enter a rule name (internal reference, not shown to customers).
  4. Select the entity type: Order, Customer, or Product.
  5. Add one or more conditions.
  6. Set the action: which tags to add or remove.
  7. Click Save rule.

The rule is enabled by default and will run on all future matching orders, customers, or products.

Each rule can have multiple conditions. Use AND (all must match) or OR (any can match) logic.

For the full list of available conditions, see Conditions Reference →

After conditions are met, the rule applies one or more tag actions:

  • Add tags — applies one or more tags to the entity
  • Remove tags — removes specified tags if present

Enter multiple tags separated by commas.

Before enabling a new rule on live orders, use dry-run mode to see what would be tagged without making any changes.

  1. From the rules list, click Dry run next to a rule.
  2. ShopRail evaluates the rule against recent orders or customers.
  3. Review the preview — which entities matched and which tags would be applied.
  4. Adjust conditions if needed, then enable the rule.

Rules run in priority order (lowest number first). If two rules both apply to the same order, the higher-priority rule runs first. Drag rules to reorder them.

Toggle the switch next to any rule to enable or disable it. Disabled rules don’t run but keep their configuration.
