Creating Alerts
Create a stock alert rule
Section titled “Create a stock alert rule”- Open Stock Alerts from your Shopify admin.
- Click New alert rule.
- Choose the scope:
- All products — applies a global default threshold
- Specific product — set a threshold for one product
- Specific variant — set a threshold for a single variant
- Set the threshold — the stock quantity that triggers the alert. For example,
5means you get alerted when stock drops to 5 or below. - Choose the alert types to send: Low stock, Out of stock, Back in stock (any combination).
- Select one or more notification channels to alert.
- Click Save rule.
Threshold tips
Section titled “Threshold tips”- Set a threshold that gives you enough lead time to reorder. For a bestseller that sells 50 units/day and takes 3 days to restock, a threshold of 150 is reasonable.
- Variant-specific rules override product-wide rules. Product-wide rules override the global default.
Alert types
Section titled “Alert types”| Alert type | When it triggers |
|---|---|
| Low stock | Stock drops to or below your threshold |
| Out of stock | Stock reaches 0 |
| Back in stock | Stock rises above 0 after being 0 |
Alert history
Section titled “Alert history”The Alert History tab shows every alert sent, with timestamp, product, stock level at time of alert, and which channels were notified. Use this to identify patterns — recurring low-stock events signal you need a higher reorder point.
Acknowledging alerts
Section titled “Acknowledging alerts”Click Acknowledge on any alert in the history to mark it as reviewed. This reduces noise when reviewing the alert log.
